Asking for Help

We live in an individualistic society. This means that we tend to value the individual over the collective group. We describe ourselves using individual traits like analytical, smart, or quick rather than using collective traits like helpful, kind, or patient. We will pick a job or where to live based on what is best for us rather than what is best for the people around us. This way of living works for a while. It gives us autonomy and independence because we don't have to rely on anyone else in order to get things done. However, we forget that we are only human. We have limits that can cause great damage when they are ignored. We need to sleep, eat, and be around other people, but we don't want to ask for help because it goes against our individualistic society. It feels wrong. Especially as independent artists in the music industry. There are so many people who seem to have made it all on their own, so why can't we? Here's a secret: no one in the music industry has ever made it on their own. They have always had help. For every pop star that you can think of, there are hundreds of people behind them helping them get to where they are now, even the ones who claim to be "self-made". We are always going to need help getting to where we want to go. It takes so much to become a successful artist. You have to write good songs, get them produced, distribute and release them, promote them, have good social media, tour, and about a million other tiny things. No one can do that all by themselves, no matter how much they want to. It can be really hard to ask for help, but it's so worth it. Finding a good team is one of the most important things in the music industry. Here at CGS Records, we want to help indie artists tell their stories. We help you by taking the mind-numbing, uninspiring details off your plate so you can be the artist and storyteller that you were created to be. Check out the Artist Services page on our website and see if there is anything that we can do for you!
"I never understood the value of asking for help until I was diagnosed with Stage IV Ovarian cancer. As an artist, this was a critical shift in my life." ~Jill Riley CEO/Owner

This is beautiful, and so pertinent. The move towards communal, considerate living in a world of glamorized selfishness is a big one! Thank you for the encouraging words.
